BikeForce is an apprenticeship program for high school students and young adults in the North Lawndale neighborhood in Chicago. The program will focus on emerging transportation technologies, such as e-bikes, e-scooters, battery systems, and electric motors. Program members will gain the necessary skill sets—leading to job opportunities, as well as educational and/or entrepreneurial opportunities.

Is a traveling pop-up exhibit, exploring how mobility in its various forms can contribute to the fight for racial equity, mobility justice, and environmental justice, as well as how we build collective power for Chicago’s Black and Brown communities.

The exhibit expands and humanizes the narrative surrounding mobility, emphasizing its definition of “freedom and ease.” The exhibit begs the question, “who has access to freedom and ease”?

The exhibit also celebrates Equiticity's 2022 “community mobility rituals” through neighborhoods across Chicago. The walks and rides provided an opportunity for residents to learn about the interconnected histories, cultures, and environmental issues of their surrounding communities, and Equiticity's work toward racial equity.

The One Lawndale Bicylce Team is a bike team program hosted in partnership with Equiticity, Enlace, and Farragut High School in the Little Village neighborhood on the Westside of Chicago. The bike team works with high school students to provide mentorship, leadership development, and advocacy training.

The bike team teaches basic bicycle mechanics and ride safety and facilitates ride training through weekly community bicycle rides with program members. The team is Equiticity’s contribution to the broader “One Lawndale” effort to connect the North Lawndale (predominantly Black) and Little Village (predominantly Brown) neighborhoods and reduce violence in both communities.

Everything we do is designed to protect our community of cyclists and everyone else sharing our streets (drivers, pedestrians, transit users, and those watching from home). Our Squad Ride Management Team is responsible for creating an experience which is safe and enjoyable for everyone.
