Mobility Opportunities Fund
Equiticity, with sponsors ComEd|Exelon, bring North Lawndale the Mobility Opportunities Fund (MOF) which will provide climate-friendly, health-promoting, affordable modes of transportation to residents of low-to-moderate income who are served by ComEd. By extending access to climate-friendly modes of transportation to limited-income individuals, the Mobility Opportunities Fund reduces the carbon footprint in low-income neighborhoods by reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
The program also will improve quality of life for recipients: With affordable transportation, participants may be able to take advantage of employment opportunities far outside the neighborhood or choose neighborhood jobs, attend classes or run errands using climate-friendly transportation. This fund will both help fend off negative climate change and improve the health and financial stability of recipients.
The Mobility Opportunities Fund will
Educate North Lawndale’s low-income residents about the availability of the Mobility Opportunities Fund and the benefits and practicalities of travel by e-vehicles, bikes and e-cargo bikes
Provide North Lawndale’s low-income residents with stipends for purchase of climate-friendly conventional bicycles, e-bikes, e-cargo bikes and e-vehicles, including child-friendly add-ons
Train recipients to safely operate their chosen climate-friendly mode of transportation
Offer low-to-no-cost repair services for bikes and e-bikes through Equiticity’s BikeForce apprenticeship program
Host events that promote the Mobility Opportunities Fund and build community around the advantages of climate-friendly modes of transportation.
MOF stipend structure
$350 for the purchase of a conventional bicycle.
$750 for the purchase of an electric bicycle.
$1500 for the purchase of an electric cargo bicycle.
$3500 for the purchase of an electric vehicle.
